President Washington was seated at his desk in the oval office turned and looking out the window thinking about how quickly events were moving and how much control did he really have over them. He had his concerns about the military and if they really needed civilian leadership at this time or was he in the way? Or was he being paranoid? He had a sizeable military force heading his way from Pennsylvania which might be able to topple the current government. His own military was sizing up the situation, he really became aware of a change in the situation he saw several tanks moving down Pennsylvania Blvd towards the White House. Then took up positions around it, guarding it, was it to protect him or were they his jailer. General Wallace launched into his briefing with an updated version of what military units were available nationwide, the nation being as it is at the time. He covered the status of each unit, for all services, and what if any operations they were involved in. It was amazing to President Washington that in a matter of weeks, that what looked like a very dim picture when they were looking at Washington D.C. and the military surrounding it, in Virginia and Maryland. Now with the West Coast coming online things had exploded, followed by Fort Bragg. Even with his misgivings right now things did look brighter. General Wallace’s briefing lasted an hour, at the end he asked for questions, immediately General Clayton raised his hand. â€Å"Yes General.† Said General Wallace. â€Å"I’m curious, who ordered the armor to the White House? It is true that some individuals (e.g. those suffering from insomnia) are able to live on very small amounts of sleep, but nevertheless, they do need some. Nepal is claimed to be a magical land. The beauty of the Himalayas is of mythical quality and adds a surreal and heavenly feel about this country. Nepal is a land of different climates. The variance in climate from tropical to arctic provides an ecological niche which is suitable for different varieties of plant and animal species. The biodiversity of this land has lead to the evolution of many unique life forms. The government of Nepal has not been able to do much for the highland communities of the country. These communities, mainly comprising ethnic Tibetans have never drawn direct benefits from the development projects of the state. For the past few decades, they have however found a means of making huge economic gains. These economic rewards could be made possible due to a single lucrative resource known as yarsagumba (Childs, 2014). Yarsagumba is an endemic herb of the Himalayan valleys (Winkler 2008a). The Latin name of this insect parasite is cordyceps sinesis which in the Tibetan language literally means summer plant and winter insect. Now before the beginning of the rainy season, spores of the fungus (cordyceps mushroom) parasitizes the earth-dwelling caterpillars. The fungus then mummifies the bodies of the caterpillars to form an insect parasite, a fungus-caterpillar sort of complex which is used as a unique herb, mainly for medicinal purpose. There are many types of medicinal plants and herbs found in the Nepal region, but the most famous of them is Yarsagumba. This herb has a long history of medicinal use in the Tibetan and Chinese culture. The trade in Yarsagumba has witnessed an unprecedented rise in the last decade or two and today it is regarded as a life saving tonic. It has got several usages, from treating headache, toothache, to strengthening kidneys and lungs; this herb is used not only in clini cal medicine but also as household remedy. But its most publicized use is as an antidote to sexual impotency, so much so that it is commonly called the Himalayan Herbal Viagra. Yarsagumba is an extremely scarce resource. It is available at high altitudes of around 3300-4000 m. It grows in Nepal, mainly in the districts of Dolpa, Jumla, Kalikot, Humla, Manang, Baglung, Mustang and Rasuwa above the snowlines. Today, Yarsagumba is the most expensive medicinal herb, with an exorbitant price of $22,187 per kg (as of 2014). Around 2500 kg of this insect parasite is collected and traded every year. Half of this annual supply comes from the district of Dolpa in western Nepal. A daily estimate of $35 has been made regarding the maximum possible earning that a villager can make by trading yarsagumba. The truth is this daily amount is higher than the monthly income of many households in Nepal. This is the reason that the villagers in those regions take a lot of risks to climb up the mountains and look for the caterpillar-fungus. The months of May and June serve as the prime time when villagers from the remotest areas make their way to the highlands in the Himalayan region of Nepal in search of this Yellow Living Gold. It was illegal to collect yarsagumba until 2001. But with the growing popularity of this tonic and after constant lobbying by different organizations, the ban was lifted. A royalty rate of US$ 280 per kilogram (2.2lbs) was imposed instead. The price of the rare mushroom was U$ 5/6 per kilogram in 1992. By the year 2002, this price increased to US$ 1435 per kilo. The continuous demand in the international market and the growing international interest in this rare half-caterpillar-half-fungus made its price in 2014 shoot up to US$ 22,187 per kilo. Nepal does not involve in the cultivation of Yarsagumba. The people of Nepal are still unaware of the exact method of cultivating Yarsagumba. China and Korea have done a lot of research on the cultivation of this rare and high valued resource. Given the increasing demand of this highly expensive medicinal herb, many organizations and individuals are working in this area of study. The Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences was successful in isolating the commercial strains of the fungus, Cordyceps for the first time in 1982. This strain was named CS- 4. During the whole of the 1980s this new strain was developed into a mycelium and a lot of clinical trials and human testing was done. All this lead to the start of commercial production of Yarsagumba in China under the name of Jin Shui Bao capsules. A wide range of population was encouraged to use it as a clinical trial in order to establish its chemical composition, therapeutic activity, toxicity and many othe r facts. This herb is a source of livelihood in the rural areas of Nepal and every year close to 69000 collectors assemble in that region (Devkota, 2010). In Nepal, Dolpa district has been a pioneer of C. sinensis collection and trade since a very long time. It has been reported that the collection of Cordyceps sinensis started from 1987 in Dolpa (Gupta, 2017). The local people of this district and also the surrounding districts mainly involve in agricultural activities. But in the May-June season of harvest of Cordyceps sinensis, all the other activities become secondary means of livelihood and the main source of earning for the villagers and the local herders is the collection of this herb. Hardly a quarter of the total population inhabits the villages during this season. Threats and Management strategies An increasing concern has been the number of threats, mostly of anthropogenic nature that surround the biodiversity of this ecological niche region of Nepal. As stated, these threats are mostly a direct or indirect result of human activities. Excessive grazing of animals, overuse of fuel woods, unrestricted collection of herbs and other medicinal plants and other such activities all lead to habitat alterations. The medicinal plants of this region are a major source of livelihood for the rural areas of Nepal, and the Government should give topmost priority to the maintenance of these pastures. All possible steps should be taken to maintain the ecological balance of these regions and a healthy environment should be maintained which is conducive for the sustainable development of all the flora and fauna of these regions. The harvesting strategies should also be sustainable. Haphazard and unrestricted collection should never be allowed. Illegal hunting practices have become very common i n these pastoral zones. Such practices can cause an unbalance in the ecosystems and can prove to be major threats to faunal biodiversity. Of late, the importance and the need to protect the indigenous knowledge and local techniques is coming to the international forefront. Innocence and Justice The Comparison of Characters from Shen Congwen and Huang Chun

The paper argues that the female character described in Shen Congwen’s â€Å"Hsiao-hsiao† can be compared with the male character of Huang Chun-ming’s â€Å"The Drowning of an Old Cat† because of the observed similarities in the characters’ visions of innocence and justice. It is important to focus on this issue because the comparison of the female and male characters who can be contrasted in relation to their ages and experiences is a controversial task, and many persons are inclined to share different points of view regarding the possible similarities while determining the differences clearly. Although it is rather difficult to find similarities while focusing on the characters’ gender and age differences, it is important to concentrate on the fact of how Shen Congwen’s Hsiao-hsiao and Huang Chun-ming’s Uncle Ah-sheng are similar in their discussion of the ideas of innocence, justice, courage, and will, and how the authors emphasize these characters’ qualities to make them more realistic. The approaches of Shen Congwen and Huang Chun-ming to developing the literary work and to conveying the main story’s idea are rather different, but these authors share the similar techniques while presenting the narratives’ main characters. The authors intend to portray the most realistic characters who should possess the most valued qualities to oppose the unjust situations and social issues. Shen Congwen’s Hsiao-hsiao and Huang Chun-ming’s Uncle Ah-sheng can be discussed as innocent in relation to their human nature because they are oriented to preserving the original moral values and principles. From this point, Hsiao-hsiao discusses her problematic life conditions as satisfactory because she performs her duties as a human and social being (Congwen 229). In his turn, Uncle Ah-sheng demonstrates his innocence while believing in justice and intending to prevent the authorities from ruining Clear Spring (Chun-ming 12). Thus, the authors operate the concept of the innocent human nature in order to contribute to proving the idea of their stories and in order to find the balance between depicting the idealized and realistic characters. The characters depicted by Shen Congwen and Huang Chun-ming are not only innocent in relation to their human nature but they are also realistic because they are able to make wrong decisions and to act focusing on their feelings rather than on the moral and rational visions. To criticize the definite aspects of the traditional Chinese society, it is important for Shen Congwen to depict the main female character as rather willful and courageous while following her own path. Thus, while following all the cruel codes of the Chinese society and principles of the married life, Hsiao-hsiao allows being seduced by the other man because of relying on her own sensitive perception and vision of the situation (Congwen 229). Moreover, being pregnant, Hsiao-hsiao succeeds to be rather patient while facing the threat of being cruelly punished. It is possible to note that Hsiao-hsiao is depicted by the author as the embodiment of the opposition to the cruel Chinese traditions and morality based on the Confucius ideals. Thus, describing the possibility of punishment, Shen Congwen ironically states that Hsiao-hsiao â€Å"should have been drowned, but only heads of families who have read their Confucius would do such a stupid thing to save the family’s honor† (Congwen 235). In this case, the action of ‘innocent’ Hsiao-hsiao is challenging and provocative in comparison with the ideas of those persons who rely on the Confucius ideals, and Shen Congwen manipulates these qualities of Hsiao-hsiao’s character in order to argue on the more complex social issues in her narrative. In spite of the fact that the writing style of Huang Chun-ming differs significantly from Shen Congwen’s one, the role of the characters’ depiction to emphasize the narratives’ ideas is discussed by the authors similarly. That is why, it is necessary to refer to Huang Chun-ming’s depiction of Uncle Ah-sheng’s qualities used by the character during his fight for the justice and rights. Hsiao-hsiao’s courage to oppose the moral and social norms is observed in the context of the young woman’s family when Uncle Ah-sheng’s courage to oppose the injustice is observed at the larger social level. Huang Chun-ming concentrates on Uncle Ah-sheng’s courage and confidence while providing his thoughts on the necessity to act and prevent the building of the swimming pool in the community. Thus, the author uses Uncle Ah-sheng’s inner monologue to depict his ideas, â€Å"Won’t this be the end of Clear Spring? I won’t let them get away with it, and I absolutely won’t allow it! I’ll run home and tell the others† (Chun-ming 16). Uncle Ah-sheng can be characterized as determined to prevent the destruction of the sacred spring because he ‘absolutely won’t allow it’, and his activities support his decisiveness. The characters portrayed by Shen Congwen and Huang Chun-ming are also realistic because the authors are inclined to preserve the balance between the demonstration of their righteousness and their obvious weaknesses. Uncle Ah-sheng is as focused on justice as Hsiao-hsiao is focused on finding the right way from the life problematic situations. Thus, the obvious injustice and violation of the villagers’ rights noticed by Uncle Ah-sheng infuriated him, and he â€Å"couldn’t understand why others received the protection of the law for interfering with his and his friends’ actions, while the righteousness of his behavior was considered illegal† (Chun-ming 24). Referring to these Uncle Ah-sheng’s thoughts, it is possible to state that Huang Chun-ming describes his character as rather self-confident because he expresses few doubts about the ‘righteousness of his behavior’. These elements accentuated by Huang Chun-ming are correlated with Shen Congwen’s portrayal of her female character because Hsiao-hsiao is inclined to conclude about the righteousness of the other people’s actions and behaviours while referring to her own experience. However, it is also important to note that, in general, the images of Hsiao-hsiao and Uncle Ah-sheng are quite positive and reflecting the best features of the human nature in order to contribute to the authors’ intentions to depict the realistic situations with involving the realistic characters. In spite of the fact that in their stories, Shen Congwen and Huang Chun-ming present the female and male characters belonging to different age categories, the authors’ approaches to depicting Hsiao-hsiao and Uncle Ah-sheng are rather similar because of the idea to portray the realistic characters who can oppose to the cruelty and injustice of the society because of their inner power, innocence, feeling of justice, courage, and will experienced in many problematic situations. Hsiao-hsiao and Uncle Ah-sheng as they are depicted by the authors are not idealized with references to their morality or righteousness, but they seem to be realistic and powerful because of their true human nature which helps the characters be alive and active while struggling against possible injustice. The story tells us how Alexander conquers Asia, Egypt, part of India and how he becomes the legend â€Å"Alexander the Great†. The chosen leaders for this movie are Alexander and his father Phillip. Alexander is a man with enormous dreams since his childhood and he has been called â€Å"The son of the god†. He knows and believes from the very beginning that he will create a history and become an important person for his people. Alexander is an effective and good leader in one way, but on the other hand sometimes he seems to be an ineffective leader who only searches for power and self fulfilment. ALEXANDER -Alexander’s Ability and Traits Alexander has traits to be an effective leader in wars. He born as a leader and knows how to get the soldiers to follow him and trust him. He takes an interpersonal role where he acts as a leader of his men and the population of the land that he conquers. Alexander is a good planner and organiser, he know his goal and have a strategy. He has also great ambition to do the best for himself and his people. Alexander wants to be seen as a hero, he love to manage and conquer. He is a good negotiator, as you can see in the movie for example when he and his father conquer Greece. The traits and behaviour that Alexander has is associated with derailment is that sometimes he shows very high self-esteem and He thinks that he can manage everything because of his very individualistic nature. Also he trust anyone and anything but himself. However, he needs to learn that sometimes he also needs to listen to his people and his followers to make decisions. Furthermore, another negative trait of Alexander is that he is very much impatient since he is so much fascinated by his ambitions that he couldn’t analyze the facts. -Alexander’s Leadership Behaviours Alexander uses different leader behaviours depending on the followers. For the soldiers, he tries to motivate and recognize them and to create a culture with values and norms. He also clarifies goals and objectives for the soldiers, so everyone knows what they need to do. Alexander is also a good team builder, to be a good soldier you need to work together as a team and he displays this must behaviour. Alexander’s In-groups and Out-groups Alexander has some in and out group member in one point of view. The in-group members are: His mother, his nearest friends such as such as Ptolemy, Hephaistion, and Cassander and his tutor, Aristotle. The out group members are the other soldiers from the places he conquered. However you can also take the point of view that Alexand er tried to create a positive relationship with all of the followers and create system and network through the world, as a head leader. Soldiers need to work as a network and that’s why he needs to have positive relationships among all of the followers so they trust him. Alexander’s Leadership Styles Alexander is task oriented and uses an autocratic leadership style. On the other hand, when he has time, he used consultation with his nearest friends, mother and his tutor, Aristotle. If we look from the perspective from Ohio State University he would be a directive/autocratic leader. Alexander also use delegation the daily business to the kings of the conquer land. In our point of view he thinks that he uses the appropriate decision style but he could use more consultants and listen to the followers rather then being very task-oriented leader. -Alexander’s Sources of Power Alexander has different sources of power. He has legitimate power because of his position king of Macedonia, reward and coercive power that he can reward or punish the soldiers depending on their behaviours and ecological power because he can decide how the organization for the soldiers and the organization should look like. He has also referent power that he has charisma and the soldiers have high loyalty. -Alexander’s Influence Tactics Alexander use different influence tactics to influence his people, legitimate power, rational persuasion, exchange tactic, personal appeals, inspirational appeal, and pressure tactic. Alexander is also a charismatic leader; he has the charisma both from his personality, vision and the situation. And his vision is to conquer the whole world and being the strongest. PHILIP Even though Alexander is the leading character in the movie, King Philip plays a very important role as well. Philip is a good leader in his younger ages in terms of expanding the borders of the country and giving importance to science, art, philosophy†¦etc. Additionally, he seems to be liked and respected by his public. However, in the film we come across with his old ages, accordingly a decline of his success. Therefore, he is facing problems related not only with divided Greece but also his health problems. -Philip’s Ability and Traits Dominance, self confidence, intelligence and internal locus of control are four personality traits for Phillip. In terms of dominance criterion, we clearly see that Philip likes to take charge of things and leading people, and he actually succeeds on this aim. He rules a broad country and commands the army. He is also highly self confident. Even if he is really sick, he believes he can go to the wars alone without taking Alexander with him. His self confidence may come from his intelligence, since he knows that he has enough capability of achieving his goals and he believes he is superior to his rivals such as the kings of other nations or commanders of other armies. Most importantly he has clear internal locus of control. He wants all control in his hands. He even believes he should rule the whole world. Accompanied with his effective behaviors, Philip has also some traits which results in derailment. Here are some of them: We can say that Philip is somewhat neurotic. This low emotional stability may occur because of his age or the complex situations he is facing with. He is also defensive, meaning he resists change. Another negative aspect of his behaviors is that he is not good at delegation. The monarchic nature of his power may prevent him to share responsibility with others. He is also very self- centered and he does not want to share the success with others. -Philip’s Leadership Behaviours Basically, the behaviors that Philip employs: Planning/Organizing, Motivating, Consulting, Rewarding. As a king, planning and organizing tasks are inevitable for him; and we see it from the movie in the scenes that he tries to develop strategies for his troubled country. He believes that his country should rule the world and he motivates his followers in that way. He also applies rewarding. He organizes meetings and declares the successes of soldiers who return from wars. He has some advisors around him and the famous philosopher Aristotle. He consults them and gains insights about situations around him. -Philip’s In-groups and Out-groups We identified two characters as examples of in-group members. They are Philip’s close friends/advisors and his girl friend. They clearly more influence on Philip. On the other hand, his wife Olympia seems to be an out-group member. Philip wants to send her away since he is in love with Eurydice. He is also suspicious about her loyalty. He claims she creates gossips about him saying he has gone mad. And the queen is not happy about these conditions and she feels disappointment that Philip leaves her. -Philip’s Leadership Style Phillip uses basically two different decision making style in the movie. The most used one is autocratic decision making. As being the leader of the public and the palace Phillip makes decision alone without asking Alexander, the Queen, the soldiers and his friends. On his own Phillip investigates the conquests, wars, and the future of Macedonia and decides what should be done. After that he tells people what he decided and what would they do. -Philip’s Sources of Power Firstly, he has position power. He has legitimate power because he is the king and the leader of the public and the palace. Since Phillip can reward people for appropriate behavior and punish them for noncompliance he has both reward and coercive power. He has great information power because he has control over access and distribution of the information. He control over the physical environment and organization of the work so he has ecological power. Secondly, he has personal power: Due to his specialized knowledge and skills he has great expert power. -Philip’s Influence Tactics Phillip use legitimating tactics, inspirational appeal by arousing emotions, consultation -He only consults with his consultant in the palace. He never asks something to the public-, and pressure tactics including coercion, intimidation, and push behavior to influence the soldiers, the public, and the palace. Phillip is also a charismatic leader; his charisma emerges depend on different sources such as his personality, leadership skills, followership, and the situation. Because of his charisma he has great impact on people especially on the soldiers. Followers’ Characteristics As we watched the movie again and again, we discovered unimaginable leadership characteristics of Alexander the great at each time; however, finally we understood that only good followers can make a great leader. The question in this point is â€Å"who is a good follower? A good follower is one who understands, supports, and works for the leader’s vision and challenges the leader’s decisions that are misguided or unethical. By taking this definition as the base we determine several followers that made Alexander one of the greatest leaders ever seen. These are Macedonian great generals such as Hephaestion, Permenion, Coenus, Antigonus, Polyperchon, Crateros, Perdiccas, Attalus, Philotas, Cleitus , Pausanius, and Leonnatus. Among these Permenion and Hephaestion were the most valuable and the closest, respectively, to Alexander the great. Hephaestion grows up with Alexander and share his entire secret. Besides being a soldier, engineer and diplomat, he corresponds with the philosophers and actively supports Alexander in his attempts to integrate Greeks and Persians. Permenion, one of the most experienced warriors, is the main general in command of the army. Alexander does not make any decision without him. During the battles he can create innovative strategies and always is seem to be unbeatable. In the Gaugamela battle, while Alexander commands the right part of the army, Permenion fights in the left of the army and solely commands the entire left part. Alexander is great with these followers, without them he is just a person who has high passion to win, to create a unique empire in Europe and Asia. When Macedonians are in India, Alexander speaks to his army and tried to persuade them to march further into India but Coenus makes him to change his opinion and return. The main reason of this return is the unwillingness of the generals. However, we never forget that without a leader followers cannot succeed. The Image of Fire in Faulkner’s Short Stories, Barn Burning and Shingles for the Lord The image of fire was very prominent in Faulkner’s short stories â€Å"Barn Burning† and â€Å"Shingles for the Lord.† Throughout the two stories, fire emerged as a destructive device. The production of fire directly or indirectly destroyed property and the image of the characters, Snopes and Pap. Fire symbolized the character’s deceitful ways and destruction of his identity in society. The fathers present in the two stories possessed deceitful natures. In the story â€Å"Barn Burning,† Snopes’ ill manner erupted into arson. He appeared as the defiant worker. After destroying the landowner’s expensive rug, he refused to pay the ten bushels of corn and burned the landowner’s barn (18-21). His resort to fire symbolized his derogatory ways. Fire was his most destructive tool to facilitate his revenge. In comparison, in â€Å"Shingles for the Lord,† Pap indirectly produced fire. In his misleading plot, he tried to outsmart a fellow worker by removing shingles off the church roof at night. However, the lantern he used for light created a fire in the church (39). His accidental manufacture of fire was a result of his deception toward his fellow worker. Fire was an ultimate consequence of his behavior. Each character used fire as a destructive weapon and ultimately destroyed himself. In â€Å"Barn Burning,† Snopes’ use of fire in the beginning of the story presented him as an outcast. At a trial for arson, the judge told Snopes, â€Å"I can’t find against you, Snopes, but I can give you advice. Leave this country and don’t come back to it† (5). Snopes’ use of arson destroyed his self-image in front of societal figures. He was banished due to his actions. Pap’s arson destroyed society’s respect for him and labeled him as an outsider among the people. Faulkner’s use of fire signified the father figure’s deceitful ways and the ultimate deconstruction of each father’s presence in society.

Motivating Children in the Classroom

Motivation plays a significant role in the growth and development of children. Well-motivated students are able to accomplish assigned tasks and responsibilities and generate desirable learning outcomes. This idea is based on the premise that children who do not exert effort and lack the ability to cope up with the challenges of classroom learning do not perform well academically. Children must be able to understand the importance of effort and acknowledge their capability of accomplishing their tasks during classroom instruction. (Alderman, 2004) This is where the role of the teacher, the educational institution, and the stakeholders come in. The classroom environment must foster learning and education, as well as good working atmosphere for the comfort of the students. Teachers should display desirable characteristics and views that are motivating for the children. Moreover, stakeholders, such as the parents, government, religious institutions, etc. must be able to provide a community for the children that support their education and their learning environments. However, since the teacher actively involved in education and the learning process, he must be able to take on multifarious roles and incorporate numerous strategies and techniques in order to promote education and learning to the children by motivation. The foundation of the children’s involvement in their education is feeling the sense of belongingness and comfort within the confines of the learning environment. Providing a learning environment that is adaptable to the child and an institution, which fosters desirable social interactions and relationships, becomes a primary motivation for children to attend school. (Alderman, 2004) Therefore, the classroom environment must be structured in such a way that it is built on the relationship of each child with the other, and the teacher to the children. Developing this kind of relationship is influenced by open communication and social interaction through group activities. Moreover, the teacher should be able to grasp a thorough knowledge of the psychology of a child in order to set relevant instructional tools and strategies that are appropriate to implement for children. This includes the knowledge of several learning theories that might be instrumental for motivating children. Some of these theories include the cognitive theory, social cognitive theory, behavioral theory, humanist theory, cognitive-behavioral theory, etc. These theories seek to explicate how the minds of children work and how they behave. This understanding shall help the teacher design a motivational plan that targets the specific needs and demands of children. (McInerney, 2000) Classroom motivation may differ depending on the nature and scope of the course. Taking a look at how motivation is implemented in Physical Education, it is observable that it greatly differs with other courses, such as language arts or science for instance. One good thing about Physical Education is that it supports social interaction, cooperation, and teamwork, which is the foreground of motivation among children. The challenge for children in this particular course is the goal or the objective to achieve in the tasks and activities of Physical Education. The danger in this concept lies in the tendency of students to become uninspired in learning when they experiencing loss or failures. However, in some instances, losses or failures enhance motivation and pushes children to learn more and try harder in order to attain success through persistence. (Hardy & Mawer, 1999) The Physical Education teacher should be able to determine individual attributes of the children in order to determine what motivates them in the course. Children who are uninspired by failures should be made to experience success in order for them to gain at least an ounce of confidence and drive to get involved with the tasks and activities of the course. Setting of specific goals or objectives is also instrumental in motivating children in Physical Education. If the teacher sets our clear goals that children should accomplish, they are motivated to get up and moving in order to accomplish the particular goal. Experiencing success in the realization of goals and objectives provide the students with the sense of worth and aptitude. (Hardy & Mawer, 1999) Motivation does not only concentrate with the ability of the teacher to encourage positive performance outputs, or the character of children to get motivated by classroom instruction. It is also dependent on the activities, which are involved during classroom instruction. The implementation of various activities and a lot of choices or alternatives is instrumental in rousing the interest of children. Since the preference of children is varied, it is always recommended to provide varied activities that children can choose from. Through this, they are able to explore new and exciting activities, from which they can determine their strengths and weaknesses and identify what truly interests them. Moreover, this type of activity setting creates the desire for mastery and goal accomplishment. (Hardy & Mawer, 1999) The most important thing in teaching Physical Education is to motivate them to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge wherein the goals and objectives of the particular course are grounded. The implementation of various games is necessary in order to motivate them, through the light and fun nature of games and activities, with the incorporation of values and academic knowledge within these particular games and activities. There are a lot of skills and abilities that Physical Education may teach, provided the teacher keep the children well motivated by incorporating fun and interesting games to the lesson. For instance, there are games that teach sportsmanship, the skills of following instructions, math and spelling skills, acting, interest in reading stories, etc. Involving these kinds of activities does not only motivate them, but increase their chances of learning more, in terms of the academic and moral aspects of learning. Holden’s Passive and Unwillingness Essay

Holden is the protagonist in the novel, Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger (1945). Holden is a character who tries to seek for dignity, but he has some flaws holding him back. Holden is passive and unwilling to examine himself and seek his own dignity. Three reasons for his tragic flaw are: his craziness, his immaturity, and his phoniness and madman stuff. The first reason for Holden’s flaw is his craziness. He acts this way because he is not normal like others. Something that he repeats constantly throughout the novel is, â€Å"He is the biggest phony.† This quote shows how Holden thinks and acts towards others. Holden acts this way because who falls in love too quickly with Jane and Sally. He also thinks this way because Jane and Sally equal perfection and he isn’t perfect like them or anybody else. Finally his thoughts are what can he do to be perfect like everyone else because he seems to be the only that is crazy. Therefore, Holden acts and thinks differently from everyone else because he is insane. The second reason for Holden’s flaw is his immaturity. He acts this way because Holden is always alone and have no family to support him except his younger sister, Phoebe. Something that is repeated constantly throughout the novel is, â€Å"Jane keeping her kings in the back row.† This symbol shows that Holden cannot separate the past from the present time. Holden thinks this way because he was always necking with Jane when they were young. He also thinks this way because of his immaturity of always wanting to have sex and always wanting to be a kid instead of growing up to is an adult. Finally his thoughts always want to be with Jane, but because of his immaturity Jane doesn’t choose him. Therefore, Holden acts immature towards others because he has been expelled from four different schools and no one is there to teach him his manners and to discipline him. The third reason for Holden’s flaw is his phoniness and his madman stuff. He acts this way because he doesn’t want to get help. Something that Holden repeats constantly in the novel is, â€Å"I’m a madman.† This quote shows that he has some personal issues going on with him, but he doesn’t want to get help. He thinks this way because his other lover, Jane is going out with others, but not him because he is a jealous person. He also thinks like this because it shows his low-self esteem and his view towards women. Finally his thoughts are I’m a madman because he is inexperienced with women. Therefore, Holden is a madman because of his jealousy toward women and never did have a real relationship with any women before. In conclusion, Holden is passive and unwilling to examine himself and seek his own dignity. Three reasons for his tragic flaws are that he is crazy, he is immature, and his phoniness and his madman things. Holden acts crazy because he is not normal like others and isn’t perfect at everything. He acts immature because no one is there to teach him his manners and no one is there to also teach him his respect and manners. Holden also acts like a madman because he is jealous of Jane and Sally. He also acts like this because he doesn’t like the private schools that he goes to. Therefore, I think that Holden needs to go get some serious help to become a good and a better person.

How Ser or Estar Affects Spanish Adjectives Although ser and estar both mean to be, to the native Spanish speaker they dont mean the same thing. As a result, some adjectives can change in meaning depending on whether theyre used with ser or estar. One common example is listo. When used with ser, it typically refers to being clever or intelligent: El mono es listo, flexible e innovador. (The monkey is clever, flexible and innovative.) But when used with estar, it often means ready: Dice que no est lista para convertirse en madre. (She says she isnt ready to become a mother.) One reason for the change in meaning is because ser is typically (although there are exceptions) used with enduring or innate qualities - and in the case of listo, you might think of clever as similar in meaning to the idea of always ready. Following are some other adjectives that you can think of as changing in meaning depending on which form of to be they are used with. It can be considered the worst-ever factory fire in history. There were 188 workers died and 469 others who were injured. Most of them were young female workers and from rural area. The factory was owned by a Thai transnational corporation, Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group and one of Asia’s largest agribusiness firms. The Kader toy factory used to manufacture stuffed toys and plastics dolls mainly planned for export to the United States and other counties. There were produced forDisney,Matteland others. The site that owned and operated by Kader has been destroyed in the blaze of fire. Kader has another two sister companies that on a contract that operated at that location. PART A There were several factors that lead to this fire. Firstly, the factory was designed and built poorly. Fire exits drawn in the map or building plans were not exists; in fact not constructed, and the existing exit doors were locked. Furthermore, the building was strengthened with un-insulated steel girders which rapidly lessened and crumbled when heated by the flames. The malfunctions of fire alarms were the other factors that lead to the fire. There were four buildings on the Kader site, three of which were destroyed by the fire. The three buildings were designed a single E-shaped structure (see figure 1). Close at hand were a one-storey workshop and another four-storey structure pointed to as Building Four. Three buildings which involved in these incident Fire alarms in Buildings Two and Three had sounded and all the workers from these buildings were able to escape. Unfortunately, for Building One, the fire alarm did not sound. This part of the building was wholly committed to the storage of finished products and the fire spread quickly. The other factories were full of raw materials which also burned very quick. The fire spread extremely quickly when the Firefighters arrived at the factory, and found Building One nearly ready to collapse because of the occurrence of the combustible plastics and fabrics. Next, although each building at the plant was provided with a fire alarm system, none of the buildings had automatic sprinklers. The portable extinguishers and hose stations were installed on outside walls and in the stairwells of each building but none of the structural steel in the building were fireproofed.In addition, Kader factory did not provide its workers with decent fire safety training and the rigid security procedures. Fire drills and fire safety training were also minimal. Figure 1.Site plan of the Kader toy factory In Thailand, the Kader fire incident made a great deal for the country’s fire safety measures, especially its building code design requirements and enforcement policies. Thai Prime Minister, Minister Chuan Leekpai has made a tough action for those who violate the safety laws regarding the fire safety issues. According to theWall Street Journal(1993), Thai Industry Minister Sanan Kachornprasart is quoted that saying that â€Å"Those factories without fire prevention systems will be ordered to install one, or we will shut them down†. The leaders, safety expert and officials said that this incident would help fasten building codes and safety regulations but unfortunately, that lasting progress is still far off as employers scoff rules and governments permit economic growth to take priority over worker safety. The fire has also attracted international debate about foreign investors’ obligation for ensuring the safety of the workers in their sponsoring country because foreign interests owned majority of the shares of Kader Industrial (Thailand) Co. Ltd. 79.96% of the Kader shareholders are from Hong Kong, 20% are from Taiwan, and only 0.04% of Kader is owned by Thai nationals. A tragic industrial fire in Thailand the Kader Toy Factory fire was a fire on 10 May 1993 located in the NakhonPathom Province of Thailand. It can be considered the most focused worldwide industrial factory fire in history where officially 188 workers were killed, and over 500 were seriously injured, many seriously and also permanently. To avoid being burnt to death, they were forced to leap from second, third and fourth floors of the buildings. Most of the victims were young female workers from rural families. Moreover, this disaster was assumed as worst accidental that related to the loss of life fire in industry in history of Thailand. In addition, many of the articles was pointed due to the underlying the world changes capitalist economy that causes such a tragedy accident ever. As we all know, the previous worst industrial fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist factory in New York in 1911. Despite the years between these two disasters, they share striking similarities. In order to take the advantages of newest area of low cost labour, the company such as Kader Holding needs or should replace their operation regularly. As the result the Kader factory outside Bangkok was never intended to be a permanent structure just a temporary structure only as an instance the cheap shoddy buildings, which detected failed to achieve even the minimal Thai construction requirements, were simply packed to overflowing with workers and with their machines. Vitality safety precautions were deemed not necessary overheads. A decade later, the condition that Thailand’s workers and other Asian countries have significantly worst. Moving into a global economy connote that products are manufactured at specific location and used at other locations end-to-end the world.Having a temptation for competitiveness in this new market should not head to settle by concession in fundamental industrial fire safety provisions. There is a moral responsibility to provide workers with a sufficient level of fire protection, no matter where they are located. PART C Three proposals can improve factory safety: 1) the government need to create an independent occupational safety and health (OSH) group with regulatory powers because the government cannot generate enough money to allow civil servants to enforce OSH laws, it is doubtful that an independent group could finance itself, because it would have to be enormous, and consequently cost a fortune, to inspect all the factories concerned. Furthermore in 2000 more than two thirds of Thailand’s factories employed less than 10 workers, who are not legally protected by the Workmen’s Compensation Fund. It is unlikely that OSH standards in these factories could be policed by an outside group. 2) Increase trade union involvement in education and participation unfortunately it is improbable that campaigns by existing trade unions could effectively improve OSH accident or incident rates, since only three percent of workers in Thailand are organised into unions – the prevalence of factories with less than 10 workers as already noted, is a huge obstacle to serious improvement in the rate of worker organisation. 3) the company should Reform the OSH laws, the proposal to reform OSH laws misses the point. In both the Triangle Shirtwaist factory disaster and in the Kader fire, death tolls were so high because the buildings were illegally built or illegally operated or both. These ideas are valuable components of an OSH system, but the only effective solution is for companies and governments to tackle OSH by letting workers control their own safety. Instead of repressing independent democratic trade unions, they must instead discourage the small companies that are often sweat shops, and alternatively advocate worker participation in democratic trade unions that represent all workers, and allow workers to inspect and bargain working conditions with employers. The Dominican Republic, and its owner, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Essay

The Dominican Republic, and its owner, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo All throughout the 20th century we can observe the marked presence of totalitarian regimes and governments in Latin America. Countries like Cuba, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic all suffered under the merciless rule of dictators and military leaders. Yet the latter country, the Dominican Republic, experienced a unique variation of these popular dictatorships, one that in the eyes of the world of those times was great, but in the eyes of the Dominicans, was nothing short of deadly. Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, or â€Å"El Chivo†, controlled the people of the Dominican Republic in a manner that set him apart from the other leaders of that time. By controlling every aspect of the country’s economy, he controlled the people, by controlling each individual’s income and their jobs, he controlled their lives. (Sagas, 173) It is true that from the outside it may appear that the economy was getting better in the Dominican Republic, but the problem was that all of the enterprises and businesses were directly or indirectly owned and controlled by Trujillo himself, not the government. Building bridges, making better roads, and establishing monuments were Trujillo’s ideas as to how to make the Dominican Republic a better place. (de Besault, N/A) True that these things made the Republic more appealing and made transportation better, but the inhumane methods Trujillo employed to maintain his complete and utter control of the people completely ove rshadowed any positive things that he may have done. This previously inexistent economy is what allowed Trujillo to attain and strengthen his power in the Dominican Republic. Oddly enough, the same peo... ... In addition to being powerful, his ruthless murders made him a dangerous man too. This specific case in Latin American history comes to show how economic â€Å"stability† does not always mean happiness and wealth. The Dominican Republic’s economy was stable, but all the wealth belonged to one man, Trujillo. Network Marketing

The simplest explanation of network marketing is that it is a method of marketing that depends on independent representatives to reach potential customers that a company otherwise would not reach with traditional online or offline marketing methods. In order to accomplish this, network marketing companies and their associates recruit individuals I. E. â€Å"their sales force,† How often have you seen ads on television that use the term, â€Å"Independent Insurance Agent or Associate? † Yet, as we watch these advertisements we naturally assume they are employees of the company, when in reality they are independent business owners! No doubt you have noticed as you have driven through your neighborhood many of these small businesses, they have signs and other advertisements designed to draw your attention to them. Yet, you will rarely see advertising from the approximately 13 million people who are either involved with direct selling, or in the network marketing industry according to figures by the Direct Selling Association (DSA). There is distinct difference between us and them, in most cases they are assigned an exclusive territory and therefore cannot market outside of their assigned territory. Where as in network marketing in most cases, you can market just about anywhere your company is established! Why are companies willing to pay you to market for them†¦ †¦Why don’t they just utilize the internet or other traditional marketing methods? It’s quite simple, they want access to your network, that is your network of friends and family members! Today there are hundreds of companies offering products and services. Many of these products and services you recognize by their brand name! The products and services you can market today cover everything from Communication Services, Internet Access, Nutritional Products, Weight Loss Programs, Water Filtration Systems, Financial Programs, Electrical Power, Solar Power, just to name a few. So why do they need us? Traditional marketing methods have companies spending millions of dollars each year to market their products and services. They know that word-of-mouth marketing is a far more powerful and effective method of marketing, especially, when that message comes from those whom we know and trust! And these companies are more than willing to pay you, to communicate this message to your network of friends and family. It is extremely important to understand that this method of marketing is not about bugging your friends and family members, as many would love for you to believe. It is about your ability and skill to determine from those individuals within your circle of influence who would be interested in the products or services that your company has to offer†¦ †¦ That information alone is one of the critical elements that separates those who fail, from those who go on to become very successful! And occasionally you might uncover a few individuals, who also want to start a business! If you want to call your own shots in life, if you’re willing to get the education you will need to run a small business, if you enjoy working with people, then network marketing just might be right kind of business for you. If on the other hand, you’re only in it for the money or you just don’t like dealing with people well then†¦ †¦ You’ll most likely end up failing! network marketing business will give you a deeper appreciation of what your employer has to deal with on a daily basis. You will also become a far better communicator, someone who really listens and address the wants and needs of others! With the economy the way it is today, working from home makes more sense then acquiring a second job in order to make ends meet. And thats if you can find one! HOW DOES IT WORK ? Today there are millions of people around the world building using network marketing. The DSA reports that there are over 13 million people in the U. S involved in direct selling. You do not see them but they are everywhere, some probably right in your own neighborhood. It is a business in which common people can invest a small sum of money and rise to staggering levels of financial reward and personal freedom. In Network Marketing we help and assist others in building their business. We are also leveraging their time, with each of us is gathering customers along the way. Hence the name Network. We get paid for this because we are assisting, coaching and helping them to establish their business. Helping them to reach their goals for their financial future. So Its only right that we also get paid for our time? Lets take a look at a typical employer in a service industry with 100 or more employees. That has a labor rate of 60 dollars per hour. The goal of our employer is to keep each employee active and busy for each hour paid. Out of this once all the costs of doing business are factored in such as wages paid, health insurance, unemployment insurance, federal taxes, state taxes, fica taxes, permits, maintenance, housekeeping, the list just goes on and on. The employer may get to keep 5 to 10 dollars per hour of that labor rate. In Network Marketing, we have our initial start up costs anywhere from just a few dollars to several hundred dollars. Where most network marketers fail is they feel that they don’t need a marketing budget for advertising, they don’t seek out the education required to succeed. One of the important things to remember is, you are in a real business, you no longer have a boss holding you accountable. Your network marketing success or failure is dependent upon you and your actions. Your primary task will be to gathering customers for your products or services. To help and assist others get started in their own business partnered with you. You are looking at a business model that will take 3 to 5 years to produce the kind of results you’re looking for. So don’t give up your day job just yet. It will require 5 to 20 hours of consistent time and effort each week to build a successful Network Marketing Business. It will require a marketing budget, most people do not even consider this. This is a real business, this is your business, not a get rich quick overnight program, although it has been hyped by a great many naive marketers and web sites. Network marketing is based on word of mouth advertising which is the most effective form of advertising. Think about it when you go out, watch a great movie, you will go out and tell people about it. When Sam’s club or Costco moved to your area, you joined their buying club and started telling everyone how much you saved. This is the power of word of mouth advertising. Major advertising agencies and companies count on this. This is one of the things that we do as network marketers. The major difference is that we get paid for our word of mouth advertising. One of the most often asked questions is, will I have to sell products and services? The answer is of course yes. Think about it, no one likes to have a salesman or woman come to the door and sell them products right. We hate to go to the automobile dealers, where we are swarmed with 5 different sales people all trying to get you to buy from them right! So how are we as a network marketer different? We recommend products or services that we like and personally use. If we know it’s good and personally use it, recommending it to our friends and family is very easy.
